Impacts: Provided leadership to the NJ Council of Farmers and Communities in the development of 30 farmers markets in northern NJ. These markets bring economic activity to downtown areas, make fresh nutritious produce available to local consumers, and give 50 New Jersey farmers an alternative direct marketing opportunity. Studied and demonstrated the production and marketing of two specialty crops, globe artichoke and calabaza (tropical pumpkin) to growers. Cooperated in workshops, a conference, and a trade designed to educate NJ residents considering entering farming as a small business.
